World of Warcraft ‘experiments’ with raid rewards in preparation for Dragonflight

World of Warcraft is attempting to welcome new players without the hassle of acquiring expensive gear and alt-farming by experimenting with a system rewarding raiders for their time spent in-game. Doing so, however, will require raiding teams to reevaluate their own incentives – something that could be difficult as some players may find themselves incentivized more towards long term progression than short term rewards.

The “World of Warcraft: Dragonflight” is the upcoming expansion for World of Warcraft. Blizzard has released a preview that shows some of the new rewards that players will be able to earn in preparation for the release. Read more in detail here: world of warcraft: dragonflight.

Now my stats are good!

When a game company chooses to mess about with the present MMO in order to prepare for an impending expansion, it’s seldom a pleasant surprise. That’s the predicament World of Warcraft raiders will find themselves in with Season 4, as Blizzard has revealed that raid rewards would be drastically altered as a testbed for Dragonflight.

“Season 4 gives a unique chance for us to test some experimental improvements that may be too unpredictable for a normal season but might still provide us with useful data and feedback we can use to enhance the game in the long run,” the studio added.

So, what are these modifications? To begin, Blizzard will introduce a merchant who will offer Shadowlands raid gear in exchange for a unique currency that can only be obtained three times over the season. The company said that “this technique was originally created to alleviate the cyclic nature of Season 4’s raids.”

Another significant change is that players will earn shards to improve any gear with the new Fated tag if they participate in heroic or legendary difficulties, even if they do not complete the instance. “We think this adds more value to just fighting monsters with your group while also enabling those who want to dabble in higher difficulties to do so,” Blizzard added.

The “galakrond” is a new raid boss that has been added to World of Warcraft. Blizzard has released an update with the purpose of experimenting with the rewards for raids in preparation for Dragonflight.
