Rutgers was originally slated to play in the Pinstripe Bowl, but when that game was cancelled due to COVID-19, the Scarlet Knights were left scrambling to find a replacement. They eventually landed in the Quick Lane Bowl, where they’ll face off against Michigan State.

Rutgers was founded in 1766 and is one of the nine colonial colleges chartered prior to the American Revolution. The university is the eighth-oldest higher education institution in the United States. Rutgers was originally chartered as Queen’s College on November 10, 1766. It is the home of the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers University.
History
Rutgers University fielded its first intercollegiate football team in 1869, and played its first game against Princeton University on November 6 of that year, resulting in a 6-3 Princeton victory. Rutgers won the game by a score of 6–3. It was played on College Field, which is now the site of Rutgers’ Old Queens campus in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The Rutgers team reported for practice on September 3, 1869. The players were mostly from local schools such as Broadway Grammar School, Newark Academy and Bishop Jackson’s Kings College Grammar School of Freehold. The Prince George’s regiment joined up with colleges around the country to form what would become known as the Ivy League.

Rutgers was set to play in the Quick Lane Bowl against the University of Maryland, but when Ohio State pulled out of the their bowl game, Rutgers was given the spot.

Bowl game
The Ohio State University Buckeyes football team competes as part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. The Buckeyes have played in bowl games every year since 1978, and have compiled a 27–24 record in those games.
Michigan
Rutgers was originally scheduled to play in the Pinstripe Bowl against Iowa State, but when Iowa State backed out, Rutgers replaced them with Michigan. This was a highly anticipated game, as both teams had great seasons.
