History
The Mets are a professional baseball team based in New York City. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) East division. The Mets are one of two MLB teams based in New York City; the other is the New York Yankees, who compete in the American League (AL) East division.
The stadium
The Mets play their home games at Citi Field, located in the borough of Queens in New York City. The stadium opened in 2009 to replace the previous home of the Mets, Shea Stadium. Citi Field is located on a land plot that was originally part of Shea Stadium, and it retains some of Shea Stadium’s architectural elements.
