Today I am reviewing the Rode NT USB Mini Microphone for Gaming. It is a small USB microphone that comes with a stand and a USB cable. It is very portable and is compatible with both PCs and Macs. It has a built in stand so you could mount it on the back of your monitor or on a laptop. It has a built in mute, so you could mute the mic when you are not using it. All in all, this is a great microphone that comes with a stand and a USB cable.

Rode Microphones have been around for quite some time now, but in the last year or so it seems the company has released a new microphone every couple of months. This is a great thing for me, since I love the fact that I always have something new to review! It’s also great that Rode now makes a microphone that I actually want to buy, and maybe even use!

The Rode NT USB Mini Microphone is a class-leading, high-performance USB microphone that can be used with most PCs, Macs, and Linux platforms. Designed for professional singers and musicians, as well as audiophiles, the NT USB Microphone is suitable for recording podcasts, music, voiceovers, video games, and other audio recordings.

Rode is a big name in the audio industry. You’ve probably heard of it, even if you’re not particularly interested in microphones. In February last year, Rode released a USB microphone to compete with mid- and high-end products from Blue, HyperX, Razer and Elgato. They just released the new operating software and sent us one to test. We are fans of the Rode microphones at High Ground Gaming. In fact, the microphone I use for the HGG’YouTube channel is a Red microphone. So we were more than happy to see this little guy in action and share our experience with you. Enlarge: Specification

Unpacking and handling quality

The box includes a quick start guide, safety information, a USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable (C to C cable sold separately), the microphone itself and a magnetic stand. The base is fitted with rubber handles. It itself appears to be made of very light plastic, but the microphone adds enough weight when turned on to keep it secure. At the time of our test, Rode’s NT USB mini microphone looked and felt solid. Everything about the build quality feels high-end and professional, from the 360-degree swivel stand to the volume knob that doubles as a button to turn the sound on and off through headphones. I had two complaints: the lack of a mute button (you can mute through the software, but a button would have been much more convenient) and the fact that no shock mount is included. Rode recommends its SMR Shock Mount as a compatible option, but that will cost you an extra $79 – a hefty price for rubber bands and plastic. Credit: Cody Campbell / HGG word-image-12929 word-image-12930 Rode sent us one of their PSA 1 boom arms for use with the NT USB Mini. We were incredibly impressed with the PSA 1 itself. The smooth rotation and quiet spring make it the best arm I’ve ever used. Unfortunately, it relies on the weight of the microphone attached to it to stay in place. The NT USB Mini does not feel heavy enough, even when the voltage is fully boosted.

It doesn’t look bad!

The pristine sound of the Rode NT USB mini microphone was fantastic during our test. The midrange and high frequencies are conveyed clearly and distinctly, without the coloration common to cheap microphones. The low could have been a little better, but it’s still much more complete than most USB mics. Credit: Cody Campbell / HGG word-image-12931 word-image-12932 The cardioid polar pattern is designed to pick up a single source (you). This makes it ideal for podcasts, streaming and behind-the-scenes work where you’re recording one person’s voice. It filters out reverberation and some background noise. It doesn’t work with omnidirectional sound. The built-in plop filter also does an excellent job of attenuating plosives (air noises when pronouncing the p sound), which is very important for sound quality. The built-in microphone also eliminates the need to hold another object in front of your face and keeps the microphone slim.

Connecting to Red Connect

The new Rode Connect software is a welcome addition. It features multi-channel volume control and attenuation, noise gate, compressor, exciter and big bass. It also has a built-in recording function. You can even set markers for important points that you may want to change later. It has far fewer features than the Elgato Wave software, but the control software is a rarity among USB microphones, and the few features it has give it an edge over most competitors. Credit: Cody Campbell / HGG word-image-12933 word-image-12934 It seems that this software is intended more for podcasters and other users who want to use it to edit the final product, rather than for people who broadcast or produce other live content.

The MSRP of the Rode NT USB Mini is $99, making it cheaper than the Elgato Wave, Blue Yeti and HyperX Quadcast S. It doesn’t have multiple recording modes, but cardioid is the main mode gamers are interested in, so we’re interested in that too. The sound quality is phenomenal, and the additional control software makes this one of those devices you don’t want to miss. We may have a new addition to our list of the 10 best microphones for gaming and streaming.   word-image-4724 word-image-4725

The last couple weeks I have been playing with a USB microphone that Rode sent me for review. I love the idea of a USB microphone, especially for those of us who play games on our computers and want to have a mic to talk with our teammates, talk with our friends, or simply just talk to the computer. The NT USB Mini Mic by Rode is an exceptional device, not only because it is a USB microphone, but also because it happens to be one of the smallest USB mics I have ever seen. In fact, it looks like a tiny USB hub. It is very easy to carry around, and you can easily attach it to your computer to record whatever you are saying into the mic, whether it be a game talk. Frequently Asked Questions

Is Rode NT USB mini good for vocals?

When the Rode NT USB Mini arrived in my mailbox, I was curious about its appeal to the gaming community. I’m not a gamer, so I didn’t think I’d have much use for it. But after using it for a few weeks, I started to see this mic’s potential outside of the gaming world. If you’re a singer or a voice actor, this mic could be pretty useful. It was a rainy day when I got my hands on the Rode NT USB mic. The umbrella was a little too small to cover the mic and myself so I had to hide in the back corner of my room to keep it dry. I plugged in the mic and attached it to my iPad and started singing into it. I was happy with the sound output from the mic although it was a little louder than I had expected.

Is the Rode NT USB worth it?

I’ve had the Rode NT USB for a while now (it’s been a few months) and I’ve been meaning to do a review on it for a while now. The first thing that comes to mind is that it’s a really clean looking, extremely compact USB microphone that to be honest, I didn’t even know much about until I read the specs. The Rode NT USB is a really well made mic. It’s extremely sturdy, lightweight and is able to withstand a lot of abuse. It’s really unique in that it doesn’t have a shock mount, which is a lot less common among USB mics. I like that it has a headphone jack, as opposed to the typical Rode clip on mic which is a lot The Rode NT USB is a miniature USB microphone that’s designed to be slim and lightweight. It’s about the size of a USB flash drive. The microphone is made with a stainless steel construction which should make it last longer than the more plastic microphones. The NT USB also comes with a pop filter, so it won’t pick up all the noise that your voice creates in your computer.

How do you use rode mic NT USB Mini?

The Rode NT USB mini microphone is a nice little microphone for the price. It’s a solid entry-level mic for gaming, and it’s a good choice for anyone who needs a mic and is on a budget. After the very positive response on my last article on the Rode NT USB Mini Microphone, I decided to do a quick review of this mic. This is a handheld USB microphone with a cardioid polar pattern. The microphone has a very small footprint, with a diameter of 2.5 inches and a length of 3.5 inches. It is weighted at just 3.5 ounces. The microphone comes in a small cardboard box, with the USB cable and a small pouch containing the instructions.
