The Metro series has always been known for it’s beautiful, bleak and desolate landscapes, and Metro: Exodus is no different. The post apocalyptic series is set in the year 2036, and takes place mostly in the Russian Metro. The series follows the life of Artyom, who is just one of the many survivors of a nuclear war that happened 20 years prior.

Metro Exodus is the third game in the Metro series, and takes place in a post-apocalyptic Russia where the remnants of humankind live in a network of underground tunnels. The game is a first-person shooter where you explore a variety of these tunnels and attempt to survive the horrors of the surface world.

The Metro series of games, based on the book series of the same name, and developed by 4A Games, has become an international sensation, and a household name among gamers. While the first two games were based in the post-apocalypse, they only hinted at the true nature of the games. With the release of Metro Exodus, that has all changed. The game explores the remainder of the world outside of the Metro tunnels, and does so in a gorgeous apocalyptic wasteland that has left many wondering how it was created.

Metro Exodus is an exceptional game in many ways. This mix of survival horror and hardcore shooter turned into a thrilling playable drama when it was first released in 2019. Equally impressive are the advanced graphics, which could bring more than one gaming platform to its knees. But now there is an expanded edition. With improved lighting, shadows and other technical special effects, Exodus is a visual masterpiece more than ever.

Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition : Beautiful apocalyptic enhancements

word-image-9720 With the advent of new graphics cards with improved ray tracing capabilities and performance, such as the NVIDIA GeForce 30XX series (not to mention new consoles with 4K ray tracing support), there are many new and improved tricks available to developers. Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition is an excellent example of how developers can take advantage of new technologies and still remain player-friendly. Unlike, say, the upgraded and updated Controledition, where players were forced to purchase a new version of the game to get the most out of their new game systems, this upgraded edition is free to anyone who owns the original game. This applies to PC, PlayStation and Xbox owners, although the updated version won’t be out on consoles until late June. For PC users, it should be noted that Enhanced Edition requires a graphics card capable of actually playing the game. So gamers who haven’t upgraded their hardware in a while shouldn’t ask for help. This is not just a patch for the base game. Instead, the entire game has been heavily redesigned to take advantage of the new graphics. If you buy Exodus new, the Enhanced Edition package includes both expansion packs for one player, but existing owners will only get the updated DLC if they already own it. The game itself has remained the same. The updates only concern the visual domain and are of a purely technical nature. These improvements make an already great game even more impressive. word-image-9721 Of course, most of the changes (thanks to updated ray tracing and other benefits like NVIDIA DLSS 2.0 support) are subtle. The field of view, shadows and lighting, animation and all aspects of what might be called natural effects have been improved in ways not immediately obvious. For a game with so many dark and stark environments, the brightness is an added bonus. Better lighting means more clarity in claustrophobic underground spaces and even more beautiful, almost photographic images in open spaces. The new global lighting systems add incredible nuances to everything, but come in especially handy in the darker parts of the game, where the greater precision makes details that were previously hidden in shadows more vivid. To get the most out of it, you’ll need at least an NVIDIA RTX 2060 to meet the new minimum specs, but ideally at least a 3060/3070 or AMD RX 6700 XT/6800 XT. A 3070/6800 XT card or higher is recommended for high graphics settings, along with 16GB of RAM and an 8-core processor. For 4K games at 30 or 60 frames per second, developer 4A Games recommends at least an RTX 3080 or AMD RX 6900 XT. Essentially, this makes Metro Exodus a showcase for the capabilities of your new system. We’ve encountered some strange problems while playing, though strangely they don’t usually occur while playing. In particular, when first starting the game, there are elusive intro movies and the game freezes oddly when navigating to the main menu screen. After that, the game went well.
