Its playerbase has been steadily growing since the game’s launch, but it doesn’t offer much in terms of stats and data due to its less restrictive nature. This guide will take you through all the most important moments in your first playthrough so that you can get up to speed as quickly as possible while getting some insight on how things work in Elden Ring.

Points for Attributes

When opening up the status menu, the first thing you’ll likely notice at the top left side of the page is your current level, the current number of runes you hold, and the number of runes needed to level up. So far, this is pretty straightforward information. Below this, however, you’ll see the heading “Points for Attributes”. This is where things get a bit more complicated.

Increasing Your Attributes

Within Elden Ring, your major metrics are your characteristics. When you level up at a place of grace, you may boost one of these eight stats by one point every level. This will raise the chosen characteristic and deliver the accompanying rewards to your character. Consider this stats column to be an input, with changes in its value affecting the values of the next two columns on the screen. With this in mind, let’s break down each individual characteristic so you can see exactly what you’re impacting when you level one up.

Vigor

Vigor is the first of these qualities. The vigor stat determines your HP. This is an important stat to level up regardless of your build so that you can take hits and remain alive. We suggest investing in this attribute early in your quest to increase your survival for some of the game’s more tough confrontations.

How much should I increase my vigor level?

Once you’ve figured out your favorite playstyle, you may reduce your HP spending and concentrate on the stat that dictates your main attack strategy. In other words, although investing in Vigor is never a bad idea, there will come a time when the diminishing returns of higher level Vigor investment won’t be worth the HP gained in order to optimize your unique build.

Vigor’s Other Advantages

Vigor influences your Fire resistance and Immunity in addition to your HP. Fire resistance, as the name indicates, lessens the amount of damage sustained from fire strikes, while Immunity boosts your resistance to poison and rot. Both of these data may be seen in the status menu’s third column under the “Defense Power” and “Body” sections.

Mind

Mind controls your FP in the same way that Vigor controls your HP. To utilize most talents, as well as all Sorceries and Incantations, you must spend some FP. As a result, if you wish to use any of these strategies, you should absolutely invest in Mind. Although it may not be a top priority right away due to the cheap FP prices of the abilities, Sorceries, and Incantations you’ll have access to in the early game, it may still be good to invest in Mind to compensate for the reduced amount of flasks you’ll have.

How much should I raise my mental game?

It may be time to level up Mind whenever you reach a stage in the game where you are experiencing talents that need more extensive FP consumption. If you have enough Golden Seeds and have improved your flask charge count, you may reduce this cost by dedicating additional flasks to use Cerulean Tears.

Mind’s Additional Benefits

Your Focus stat is also affected by your mind. The greater your Focus, the less prone to Sleep and Madness you will be. Both of these status ailments may be deadly in battle, so it’s worth spending a few points in Mind just to be better protected against them. However, there are equipment alternatives that can offer you with similar status protection.

Endurance

Endurance is a difficult characteristic since it has an impact on many crucial numbers, the first of which is stamina. Every assault or dodge you make depletes a portion of your stamina. It helps to level up your Endurance early on, regardless of the build you’re aiming for. Heavier assaults burn through more energy over time, whereas lighter attacks burn through less stamina quickly.

Endurance also has an impact on your Equip Load. Each piece of equipment has a certain weight. The entire weight of your equipment has an impact on your ability to avoid roll. This figure is a percentage of your maximum Equip Load.

Comprehending the Equip Load

It is considered a light load if the entire weight of your equipment is less than 29.9% of your maximum Equip Load, and you will have the quickest dodge roll in the game. Having 70 percent to 99.9% of your maximum Equip Load in equipment weight, on the other hand, is considered a hefty load and will lead you to dodge roll slowly. The trick is to strike a balance between your equipment’s protection and its overall weight so that you can still evade successfully. We suggest aiming for a medium load, which is between 30% and 69.9% of your Equip Load.

Endurance’s Other Advantages

Endurance has an impact on robustness. Your resistance to frostbite and bleeding is determined by this number. These are the two most prevalent status effects you’ll come across in Elden Ring. With all of these advantages, Endurance is another trait that you just cannot afford to overlook.

Damage Output Affecting Attributes

The subtitle “Attack Power” appears in the center column of the status menu, followed by a list of “R” and “L” Armaments. The power of the weapons you have equipped in each slot is shown in this table. This chart shows how leveling up a certain attribute affects the weapon in the associated slot’s damage output. This might give you an idea of the stat modifications you’ll be making when you level up. It may be used to assist you make decisions while leveling up an attribute.

Strength

The ability to use heavy weapons is determined by your strength. Physical damage output of weapons that scale with Strength is also increased. The letter grade next to a weapon’s Strength stat indicates how well that weapon’s damage will scale up as your Strength increases. Massive weapons, such as Greatswords, Colossal Swords, and other large weapons, scale largely with Strength. They are not, however, the only weapons capable of doing so.

Strength’s Other Advantages

Your physical protection is also governed by your strength. Your equipped armor will provide the majority of your defense, but if you are not a Strength-based class and feel like you need an additional burst of protection, increasing Strength may help.

Dexterity

Dexterity is the skill that determines your ability to wield weapons that are quicker and more accurate. Dexterity-focused weapons are often lighter weapons like daggers, katanas, and most bows. Examine the letter grade next to a weapon’s Dexterity requirement to see how effectively it scales with Dexterity. Dexterity weapons may seem to be weaker than Strength-based weapons since they concentrate on speedier strikes at the expense of lesser damage per hit. Dexterity weapons, on the other hand, may be just as useful. They are usually lightweight, allowing for lighter equipment and speedier evasion.

Dexterity’s Other Advantages

This characteristic increases certain beneficial passive benefits in addition to damage scaling with Dexterity weapons. Casting time for spells is lowered, fall damage is lessened, and getting knocked from your horse is more difficult. If you’re mainly a magic-based character, increasing Dexterity is particularly beneficial since it increases casting speed. Otherwise, if you routinely take leaps of faith, it could be good to do so.

Intelligence

Intelligence is the major characteristic that controls your ability to cast Sorceries. If you want to create a Sorcery-based character, Intelligence is the characteristic you should concentrate on leveling up the most. Sorceries, like weapons, will have stat requirements in order to be used. Sorceries will scale with Intelligence in most cases, although they may also scale with other characteristics. Pay attention to the ones you want to utilize and increase your Intelligence or other traits to match.

Additional Intelligence Benefits

Intelligence impacts your Magic resistance just like it does your offensive Magic. If you’re playing a character that focuses on Strength or Dexterity, you’re probably lacking in magic resistance. In this scenario, it could be worth it to boost your Intelligence a little to provide you a little more protection, particularly if you know you’ll be going somewhere where foes would use magical assaults like Raya Lucaria.

Faith

Faith is the characteristic that regulates your capacity to employ Incantations, much as Intelligence is to Sorceries. Some Incantations, unlike Sorceries, are employed for healing. This implies that healing Incantations scale health recovered with Faith, while other spells scale harm with an attribute. Even if you don’t have a totally Faith-based build, if you want to utilize Incantations like Heal and Great Heal, you need level up your Faith.

Faith’s Additional Benefits

Faith, unlike most other characteristics, has no effect on defensive numbers. If you are not constructing a Faith-based character, it is not important to concentrate on leveling up your Faith unless you wish to employ a specific Incantation.

Arcane

When contrasted to the others, arcane is an odd trait. It has no effect on any offensive stats, although it does impact certain Sorceries and Incantations, as well as some weapons. With that in mind, check the prerequisites and damage scaling of the weapon or spell you intend to use to determine whether it needs Arcane.

Arcane’s Other Advantages

Arcane might be considered a “luck” stat. Its major stat is Discovery, which determines how often an adversary is to drop a certain item when defeated. Your Holy Defense and Vitality are likewise affected by Arcane. Holy Defense is your defense against Holy damage, which is generally dealt by Incantations. Vitality boosts your resistance to Death Blight, which may kill you instantly. Because of these limitations, Arcane should only be leveled up if it is required for a certain weapon or spell.

Elden Ring Stats: Some Final Advice

On the defensive side of things, there are a few more numbers to keep an eye on. There are three forms of physical defense under the Defense/Dmg Negation heading: VS Strike, VS Slash, and VS Pierce. Various kinds of weaponry correlate to different sorts of damage. Strike, for example, is linked with blunt weapons such as hammers, Slash with weapons such as swords, and Pierce with stabbing weapons such as spears. These attributes are usually influenced by the armor you’re wearing. It’s worth keeping an eye on if you’re having trouble dealing with a certain weapon type.

Pay Attention to Your Poise

Poise is another important characteristic to remember since it influences your ability to avoid being stunned by opponent assaults. Poise has its own invisible HP meter that, when it reaches zero, causes you to wobble. Poise is increased by wearing heavier armor, although it may also be affected by other items, equipment, and spells. Enemies have an unseen stagger bar as well. Hit them with Heavy assaults to take advantage of their Poise.

Respecting Your Persona

If you ever find that you aren’t happy with your current build, you can respec your character. Doing so allows you to redistribute your Points for Attributes to better suit your needs. To do this, you will have to have finished Raya Lucaria Academy and beaten the shardbearer boss of the area. After doing so, you can speak to Rennala, located near the Raya Lucaria Grand Library Site of Grace. She can perform a Rebirth which allows you to redistribute your Points for Attributes in exchange for a Larval Tear.
